Nemours is seeking a Pharmacy Operations Manager (FULL-TIME), to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida.
Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children’s Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 100-bed pediatric hospital also features the area’s only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. A hospital designed by families for families, Nemours Children’s Hospital blends the healing power of nature with the latest in healthcare innovation to deliver world-class care to the children of Central Florida and beyond. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve, we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout the region.
This position is responsible for managing Pharmacy operations within the Pharmacy Department and Pharmacy Services within the Nemours Children’s Hospital (NCH) and its affiliated clinics. The Operations Manager will work in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy and NCH colleagues to develop, organize, implement, monitor and review Pharmacy Services.Coordinates the implementation and management of automation and technology that impacts the Department of Pharmacy.Specific focus will be on drug distribution, managing resources, automation/technology, and meeting the needs of internal and external customers.
Plans, organizes, manages, and communicates effectively department activities. Develops goals and objectives, establishes and implements policies and procedures and protocols for Pharmacy Departmental operation.
Participates in the departmental strategic planning. Develops, plans, organizes, and determines operations and services to obtain objectives within budget in accordance with overall health system needs. Assists with budget preparation; reviews compliance at established intervals.
Assists the Director of Pharmacy in maintaining the compliance with The Joint Commission and other regulatory standards. Assists in the development and maintenance of departmental performance measures, reports and statistics, reviews departmental performance, effects change as needed to improve services provided and assures compliance with regulatory requirements.
Develops standards of performance, monitors and supervises assigned staff (Clinical Pharmacists). Responsible for the coordination of staff development. Evaluates performance, monitors and supervises staff to ensure that services are provided with sufficient scope and coverage to meet the requirements/needs of the patient population and community served.Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions, such as merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary action.
Understands and participates in the development of the distribution of medications at NCH.
Functions as order entry pharmacist; receives and interprets physician medication orders and/or prescriptions written by physicians and other practitioners licensed by law to prescribe; reviews them for completeness and accuracy; guards against sensitivities, contraindications, duplications, and major drug interactions; verifies orders in pharmacy computer system when necessary.
Great skills in building relationships both inside the Pharmacy Department and with customers outside the Pharmacy Department.
Coordinate the activities of the Pharmacy Staffcompleting Sterile and Non-Sterile Products processes to provide optimal pharmaceutical support to patients that is safe, cost effective, and appropriate.
Coordinate and organize the Sterile and Non-Sterile Products processes by establishing workload requirements and delegating assignments to maintain an appropriate staffing level and ensure that the services and responsibilities of the department are provided in a timely and quality manner.
Act as a liaison with nursing and medical staff concerning Sterile and Non-Sterile Products issues.
Plans, Manages and implements processes to ensure the appropriate utilization ofautomation and information technology.
Coordinates the implementation, integration and maintenance of automation and technology to assure safe and appropriate use of medications.
Implements and manage processes that identifies and resolves problems related to pharmacy automation and technology.
Supervise the activities of the automation programs (including PYXIS, repackaging, and bar-coding), equipment, and personnel assuring compliance with protocols.
Develops training materials to ensure optimal utilization of hardware and software in all operational areas of the department.
Monitors system safety by critical incidents.
Maintains a working knowledge of all automation and technology used in the pharmacy to assist supporting current computer applications and in new development activities.
Provides consulting on technology needed to provide information services support as it relates to pharmacy.
Collaborates with institution’s IS department to assist in design, test and implement pharmacy automation and technology in the hospital.
Graduate of Bachelor of Sciences, accredited Pharmacy school required.
Graduate of a Doctor of Pharmacy program from an accredited pharmacy school, preferred. Masters degree, preferred.
Minimum of five (5) + years' Hospital Pharmacy experience required.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Florida Pharmacist licensure required within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge and experience with Pediatric unit dose drug distribution systems, preferred.
Pediatric IV, Chemotherapy, and TPN experience, preferred.
Experience with EPIC software, preferred.
Florida Consultant Pharmacist, preferred.
