The Kansas City VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time board certified Physician (Hematology/Oncology). This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. See below for more information. The physician is assigned as a clinician-educator to the Hematology/Oncology Section of the Medical Subspecialty Service. Clinical responsibilities: The candidate physician will see patients in the continuity clinics and new referrals of patients to the hematology/oncology clinics. The candidate will also attend the Fellows clinic when required. For those patients with active cancer or hematologic disease, the physician may serve as the primary physician. The candidate will also spend time as attending on the Hematology/Oncology consult service; providing consultative support to all inpatient services and serve as oncology attending on call during the consult service. Outpatient and inpatient duties include supervision of inpatient as well as outpatient chemotherapy and infusion procedures; perform bone marrow aspirates and biopsies and participate in oncology conferences. Academic Activities: Academic opportunities may include serving as principal investigator of clinical trials through our research program. We are an approved site for SWOG clinical trials as well as industry supported trials. Duties would include administrative oversight of regulatory requirements and compliances with IRB regulation in human research. The position includes a major role in the clinical, research, administrative and educational programs of the Hematology/Oncology Section. The physician will take part in supervision and education of fellows and residents and participate in tumor conferences and journal club. Administrative Duties: The physician will also participate in quality improvement initiatives within the division and be part of cancer committee activities. Administrative duties could include serving on hospital and University-affiliated committees. The physician may also be assigned other administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational, and research service, task group or special project groups and quality management/quality of care responsibilities. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Authorized This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA Policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment to this position. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
