Position Summary
The Nurse Navigator is a critical member of the My DIPG Navigator team, providing compassionate, evidence-based, and personalized guidance to children, adults, and families facing a DIPG or DMG diagnosis. This full-time remote position supports families and patients nationwide through phone, video, text, and email, helping them understand their diagnosis, treatment options, clinical trial opportunities, symptom management, and supportive care resources.
Guided by the program's core pillars: Educate, Connect, and Support, the Nurse Navigator empowers families to make informed medical decisions, facilitates access to leading experts and clinical trials, and provides ongoing support throughout the disease trajectory. This position requires exceptional clinical judgment, strong communication skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to independently manage a dynamic caseload. Occasional evening and weekend coverage is shared among the team, and limited travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Build trusted relationships with families while providing compassionate, evidence-based guidance throughout the disease journey.
Educate families about DIPG/DMG, treatment options, clinical trials, symptom management, and supportive care resources.
Coordinate access to expert physicians, specialty centers, second opinions, and clinical trials tailored to each family's needs.
Partner with the My DIPG Navigator Social Worker and external organizations to connect families with financial, psychosocial, and community resources.
Collaborate with national experts, tumor boards, and healthcare teams to ensure families receive accurate, current information.
Maintain accurate documentation in Salesforce and contribute to the ongoing growth and improvement of the My DIPG Navigator program.
Represent the Foundation professionally and support organization-wide initiatives, fundraising events, and cross-functional collaboration.
Required:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum of 5 years of pediatric oncology nursing experience, including experience working with patients who have faced a DIPG or DMG diagnosis
Strong understanding of medical terminology, treatment decision-making, and clinical trial process
Ability to critically evaluate medical literature and emerging clinical trial data.
Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) with a high degree of empathy and emotional resilience, as well as ability to communicate complex medical information in an understandable manner.
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Comfortable with technology and virtual communication platforms (Zoom, email, CRM systems)
Ability to work independently, manage a flexible schedule, and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual in Spanish and English
Experience supporting families in pediatric hospice/palliative care
